John Paul Thornton, known here as johnpaulthornton (https://www.deviantart.com/johnpaulthornton), began painting portraits of missing children in 1990, when a young girl he knew was abducted. John Paul was determined to prove that art could deliver an emotional, meaningful message. He has continued on with this series for twenty years, calling it "Missing children: Paintings of Hope." His portraits, now numbering in the hundreds, have been displayed on the National Mall in Washington D.C., on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and in front of the White House.
